🎶 HERNIA, HARMONIES & HIGH NOTES: My Summer of Recovery (and Rebellion) 🎶

Have you ever done stomach crunches and thought, “Huh, did something just...shift?”Well, time to revisit last April's blog post “Deb Seymour vs. The Hernia!” (Spoiler alert: the hernia won Round One.)
Yes, your favorite whimsical girl—armed with guitar, giggles, and questionable core strength—has been temporarily benched by Hernia Surgery.
Apparently, years of dragging amps, hefting cats and lifting spirits caught up with me. So now, I’m healing...and trying not to laugh too hard. Which, if you know me, is a serious problem.
🎵 Musicianship Post-Op: A Cautionary Tale
Let me tell you, songwriting while on post-surgical medication is a wild ride. I tried to write a love song and ended up with a surf beach song about over-caffeinated rhinos dancing on my tummy.. Rhyming while groggy? Not recommended. I meant to write:
“I’m grateful for your shining eyes” but got
“Hyponatremia- I wouldn’t try to frame-y-ya….”
Profound? Maybe. Marketable? Questionable.
(Hypronatremia, incidentally, is what happened to me after the hernia surgery- it’s when your sodium levels crash and involves an overnight stay where the docs pump you full of saline. Not fun.)
🪑 The Post-Op Concert Tour:
My current tour schedule includes appearances on:
The Couch
The Recliner
The other recliner
Opening acts include:
Ice Pack Quartet
The Daily Nap Ensemble
And a surprise set from Tilly Tylenol & The Sleepytime Blues Band
🎤 Getting Back to Gigging
Fear not, dear ones—I'll be back on stage soon, gently rocking (literally), and hopefully with a reinforced abdominal wall that doesn’t squeak when I hit a high G. Recovery is a journey, and like any good folk song, it's got unexpected key changes, moments of reflection, and a few wobbly bridge sections.

(Gigging for real returns in August at the Tumbleweed Music Festival, where I’ll be headlining Sat night Aug 31 along with Pint & Dale and the Geoducks!
Meanwhile, I will sill be broadcasting “Brunch w/ Deb” every Sunday 10:00 Pacific, resuming July 6. Maybe the hyponatremia song has some value after all?
❤️ Thank You (and a Gentle Nudge)
Thank you for your sweet messages, get-well jokes, and memes involving duct tape You are the reason I keep singing—even when it hurts a little to laugh.
Now, I hate asking, but since I’m temporarily off the gig circuit and my belly button is currently closed for business… if you feel like tossing a few virtual coins into the musician's tip jar while I heal, I’d be ever-so-grateful.
Think of it as helping fund the Great Hernia Comeback Tour—complete with ballads, belly bands, and maybe a slow-motion interpretive dance.
🙏 Venmo: deb-seymour-1
But truly—whether you send a tip, a pun, or just good vibes—I appreciate you.
Remember: Lift with your knees. Laugh with your friends. And don’t sneeze while twisting!
With love, songs, and a slowly healing belly,
-Deb
